Mayor of Kilkenny Seán Ó hArgáin’s new mayoral walks have become popular with locals in recent weeks, however this weekend they take on a quirky twist for Kilkenny Arts Festival.

Mayor Ó hArgain will personally guide locals and visitors alike for a brisk walk around Kilkenny City’s cultural hotspots while also getting people to think about keeping fit and healthy. Meeting on Saturday at 11am sharp at the Mayor’s Walk on the City’s Parade Plaza, the mayor will greet participants and set out for an informative and invigorating walk around some of Kilkenny’s most prominent cultural centres.

Walkers can expect to hike around the Castle Park, stride in through the Design Centre and Craft Gallery of Ireland, trundle up through the stunning gardens of Butler House and climb the steps to St Canice’s Cathedral.

“This is a wonderful way to keep fit while learning more about the rich cultural heritage of our beautiful city,” said Mayor Ó hArgáin.

“There are few cities in the country with as much culture on offer as we have here in Kilkenny – even more-so during Kilkenny’s Arts Festival. I envisage the next two Saturdays will take in many of the wonderful artistic events and creations of the arts festival and I encourage visitors and locals to come out and join me in experiencing them.”

Gaelscoil principal Mayor Ó hArgáin is hopeful that the people of Kilkenny and visitors to the city will come together for the Saturday morning adventure through the streets of the Marble City and enjoy the artistic and cultural offerings of Kilkenny Arts Festival.
