LIZ Kavavagh has an angine on her like a Rolls Royce and she’s getting better with age. The city woman has completed 20 marathons in the last seven years. And this year, she is hoping to go one better, by doing 12 marathons in as many months.
And she is doing it all for charity.” I am fundraising for the bigger marathons London on behalf of Croi; the Berlin Marathon in behalf of the Irish Cancer Society and New York for Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin.
“I normally walk them in about five and a half to six hours,” she said. “ I’m not up there with Sonia O’Sullivan or Paula Radcliff yet but I’m getting there,” she joked.
Liz has already completed two marathons this year, one in Gran Canaria where she admitted to being the last person over the line in a time of 5hrs 47mins. Last month, February, she completed the 26 miles in the gym at Hotel Kilkenny in a supervised run that took her 5hrs 45 mins. “I had great support from my family and friends on the threadmill at the Kilkenny Active Leisure Centre who took it in turns to keep me company by walking or running beside me. My 81 year old father Freddie even did a couple of minutes with me,” she said.
Later this month she will compete in the Rome marathon; April - London; May - Belfast; June - Edinburgh
July - Roscommon; August - Longford; September - Berlin; October - Dublin; November - New York and December - Kilkenny. You can ring Liz if you would like to sponsor her on 087 4128047.
