Plans for an Astroturf pitch with floodlighting and a new walkway in Graignamanagh have been approved by Kilkenny County Council, writes Tess Felder.

The council has granted planning permission to the Graignamanagh Boys NS board of management for an Astroturf pitch with access through Duiske College and a walkway through The Pitch and Putt.

The Local Area Plan says of the area in which the site is located that “this should preferably be developed in conjunction with the College, given the need for playing pitches and associated facilities and the possibility of dual use would be encouraged by the council.”

The planning file states that the main client for the playing pitch will be the schools, and that the playing pitch will be used by groups and the general public in the evenings and holidays.

The plans make up the first of three phases of development for the area.

In giving its approval for the application, the council included conditions that access to the playing pitch will be allowed via the school grounds only, and that the floodlights must not be used later than 10.30pm.
