HURLER Michael Rice had a week to remember. He married his sweetheart, Catherine Muldowney, Danesfort on Friday, the shortest day of the year.
And fans will be delighted to know that his hand – seriously damaged during the All-Ireland hurling semi-final against Tipperary – is responding well to treatment. The signs are good that he will make a full recovery. At present he is building up the strength in the hand, and slowly but surely he is getting back the full feeling in it but will not know for sure if the rehabilitation has wroked for another while.
Following a romantic week on their own, Michael and his beautiful bride, who is a grand daughter of the six time national ploughing champion Mick Muldowney, will hitch up with the rest of the Kilkenny hurlers and officials plus partners when they travel to New York on December 28 and on to Jamaica where they will be hoping to meet double-double Olympic sprint champion, Usain Bolt just as the Kerry football team did a few years ago. Michael’s mother Katie worked for the Kilkenny People for many years.
