The figures represent a year-on-year decrease of 51% compared to the same period in 2011 when 237 new buildings were added in the county.

GeoDirectory was jointly established by An Post and Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSi) to create and manage Ireland’s only complete database of commercial and residential buildings. The figures area recorded through a combination of the An Post network of 5,600 delivery staff working with OSi.

The 117 new buildings identified in Kilkenny were composed of 101 residential buildings, eight commercial buildings and eight were dual-purpose buildings with both residential and commercial elements.

These new additions bring the total number of buildings in Kilkenny to 40,082. The decrease in new building additions in Kilkenny in the first half of 2012 of 51% is a larger decrease than the 23% fall recorded nationally.
