CALL it Instant Karma or just good fortune – an American visitor searching for his old friend in Kilkenny received a welcome surprise yesterday, as the two were reunited for the first time in decades.

Richard Falkenstein arrived in Ireland from the USA this week with his wife Peggy. They visited Kilkenny in the hope of finding an old friend distinctively named ‘John Lennon’, and a story in the Kilkenny People appealed for Mr Lennon to contact them.

Mr Lennon happened to be in Kilkenny this week visiting his brother Edward, who lives hear Conahy. They saw the story in the newspaper and made contact.

John Lennon moved from his Kilkenny home to California in 1957. He served in the United States Air Force in the 1960s, where he shared a room with Mr Falkenstein.

In 1961, Mr Falkenstein visited Kilkenny and stayed with his friend during his holiday. However, the men lost contact during the 1980s – until this week.
