The director of financial services for Kilkenny County Council John Dempsey is to leave his position with the local authorities to take up a new post as director of finances for Irish Water.
At Monday night’s meeting of Kilkenny Borough Council, the county manager and Whips from each Party paid tribute to his legacy.
“We warmly congratulate you on your appointment,” said Mayor Sean O’ hArgain.
“You will be sadly missed.”
Mr Dempsey acknowledged the remarks.
“I look back on my time in Kilkenny and I have enjoyed working here,” he said.
“It certainly doesn’t feel like 11 years. I want to thank you all for the support and kindness you have shown me. While I am sad to leave, I look back with pride at what has been done.”
In his post at the new company, he will join other civil servants including former Dublin city manager John Tierney, who is the managing director.
