A local school has made the top 60 shortlist for the ‘Our World’ Irish Aid Awards 2013.
Goresbridge National School was one of the 60 schools that have now been selected for the regional finals. For the last four months, over 500 schools across the country have taken part and submitted work for the Our World Irish Aid Awards 2013.
The regional final will take place at the Triskel Arts Centre in Cork on Thursday, May 23 ahead of a special ceremony in Croke Park for the finalist schools in June. The most outstanding project will receive the overall Our World Irish Aid Awards trophy.
The awards encourage primary school children to learn more about the lives of children in the developing world and to use their knowledge to create projects from art, drama and essays to poetry, film and music. The awards foster a greater understanding of the UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Irish Aid’s work in developing countries.
The theme for this year’s awards is ‘Education for all the World’s Children’. Ensuring that by 2015 all children complete a full course of primary schooling is the second Millennium Development Goal.
More than 500 schools entered the awards, and this year’s awards were open to all pupils in third to sixth class.
