EVEN the chairman of the Dail’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) couldn’t do anything about the theft of Fianna Fail cash on Sunday morning. John McGuinness TD was among those having tea and biscuits after Sunday morning Mass in Dunmore church, on the outskirts of the city when a scheming gang of robbers struck. The place was full of cars because the Mass was relayed live on RTE 1 television and attracted a large crowd.
It coincided with the Fianna Fail national collection and the soldiers of destiny had manfully stood outside and taken offerings from Massgoers as they walked past. However while they were all inside talking with the RTE film crew and others, disaster struck. The car of a FF voluntary official was broken into and robbed and a sizeable amount of money was taken No one is sure exctly how much was taken because it had not yet been counted but a local Fianna Fail member who did not wish to be quoted said that people had been especially generous on the day with lot of notes going itno the boxes.
Gardai confirmed that a number of other cars were also targetted by the criminals who swooped when the church. Anyone who saw anything suspicious on Sunday moring around dunmoreChurch on the Castlecomer road, Kilkenny is asked to ring Kilkenn y gardai on 0567775000 in the strictest confidence.
