According to initial tallies by Fine Gael members at the centre, the result of the Seanad referendum is too close to call.

However, the majority of boxes opened from Kilkenny city show the referendum being lost with country boxes more evenly split. A box from St John’s primary school in the east of the city showed a slight majority of Nos while a box from the Project School on the Bennettsbridge Road showed a slight majority for the Yes side. A box from the Abbey Business Centre, just off Parliament Street showed a sizeable majority against both proposed amendments. The turn-out in Carlow-Kilkenny is around 37%.
