Elinor Mountain of the Steering group for Inspiring Kilkenny said “ We only managed to finalise securing this property last Friday evening but by 9am on Saturday volunteer painters and electricians turned out to help get the shop in shape. KIlkenny is full of kind and multi talented people and our aim is to make it easier for people to volunteer help and also to buy gifts supporting local groups in one conveniently located place. As we have been kindly loaned a large screen, we plan to show film clips of the tremendous work being done by the groups involved- and have leaflets on where your skills can be used . Another longer term aim is to become a social enterprise hub and also support youth enterprise..
Running costs of insurance, heating, rates and premises fit out are initially being shouldered by the community groups involved and the use of the owner is giving the premises rent free to the project. Thanks are due to support which keeps these costs to a minimum including Paul Brennan web designer for graphic design help, neighbouring Oldhill Bakery supporting thirsty painters, and to Kilkenny on Ice for their generous sponsorship. Further sponsorship or practical help such as administrative/ IT support , assistance with morning or afternoon shop volunteer rota , office furniture/display units would be really welcomed especially since everything is being put together in such a short time span !
Groups or individuals can get involved by e-mailing inspiring email@example.com or ringing 086 8179459. Everyone is invited to the opening which will include songs and carols by local talented musicians.
