A new ‘park-by text’ system is on the way for parts of the city.

A new ‘park-by text’ system is on the way for parts of the city.

The 200 or so long-stay, low-cost spaces on approach roads will be the first to be trialled with a cashless payment – by text/app/ring – for a year.

Spaces will be able to be pre-booked, and multiple bookings will be possible. There will be no tickets on windows.

The council has promised a ‘light-handed’ approach to supervising the scheme initially, to allow motorists to become familiar with it.

The council will also investigate other types of cashless payment, including credit and debit cards. However, the higher power requirements of this would necessitate excavating pay and display machines to connect them to the Mains. At present, the machines are solar-powered.
