Kilkenny is in the running for awards in three different categories at the grand final of this year’s LAMA Community & Council Awards, which takes place this weekend.

Celebrating communities and councils working together, the awards have grown in popularity nationwide since their inception in 2006. Kilkenny has had a successful year and has finalists in the ‘Best Healthcare Building’, ‘Local Sports Club of the Year’, and ‘Community Volunteer of the Year’ categories.

Competing for ‘Best Healthcare Building’ is the Ayrfield Medical Centre on the Granges Road. Kilkenny Aqua Canoe Club is a finalist in the Local Sports Club of the Year’ category, and Mary Coady has been listed in the running for the ‘Community Volunteer of the Year’ category.

The winners will be announced at the gala awards ceremony at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Northwood, on January 25. They will be hosted by RTE presenter and journalist Miriam O’ Callaghan.

County councillor George Jones, who is chairman of IPB Insurance which supports the event, said the awards were important in recognising communities and councils who are working together to deliver excellence in development and recreational projects.

“This event affords us all a unique opportunity to pause and say thank you to the people whose tireless work on quality local projects makes such a meaningful difference across the country,” he said.
