The six year old boy who was killed in a traffic accident yesterday evening in Kilkenny city had been due to go on stage later that night. He has been named as Jake Brennan, Lintown Grove, Johnswell Road, Kilkenny.

The six year old boy who was killed in a traffic accident yesterday evening in Kilkenny city had been due to go on stage later that night. He has been named as Jake Brennan, Lintown Grove, Johnswell Road, Kilkenny.

He was fatally injured after being struck by a car in the housing estate where he lived, Lintown Grove, Johnswell Road in the east of the city at 6.30pm. He was just about to head home to get ready to go on stage at the Watergate Theatre in the centre of the city with the Jesters group as part of their annual show and end of year finale at 8pm when he was in collision with the car.

The show went ahead but none of the children taking part were aware of what had happened their friend.

The emergency services were on the scene within minutes and the little boy’s body was taken to St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny where he was pronounced dead. A post mortem is due to take place today. The driver of the car, a female in her 40’s, the sole occupant, was uninjured in the collision. The road has been re-opened. It had been closed to facilitate a Forensic Collision examination.
