Kilkenny City has been named Ireland’s cleanest town for the third year in a row by Irish Businesses Against Litter (IBAL).

Kilkenny City has been named Ireland’s cleanest town for the third year in a row by Irish Businesses Against Litter (IBAL).

The new year may only be five days old, but already Kilkenny has landed its first major award, having last year won both the IBAL crown and the coveted Tidy Towns title.

“One noticeable feature of the city is the general presentation of the main shopping streets,” says the report.

“The sites weren’t just clear of litter, but very attractively presented.”

Conor Horgan of IBAL said the honour was well deserved.

IBAL reports there have been significant improvements in cleanliness across the country. Some 40% of the towns and cities surveyed were found to be cleaner than the European average.
