THE St Patrick's Day Parade in Kilkenny city is set to be bursting with fun and creativity. that's because this year's Grand Marshall fits in beautifully with the theme of the Parade.

The actress Christen Mooney who played the character of Aisling from Cartoon Saloon's fantastic movie 'Secret of Kells' will lead the Parade onto the streets of Kilkenny along with many of Cartoon Saloons own live characters.

The committee are delighted that Aisling has accepted the prestigious offer and look forward to escorting her through the streets of Kilkenny. She may even find her way to Kells!

Cartoon Saloon is an Irish Animation Studio based in Kilkenny and an Academy Award nominee for best feature film. It began as an informal partnership between a group of animators brought together by Paul Young and Tomm Moore in 1999. Cartoon Saloon has since grown into a multi-award winning animation and illustration design studio. The studio works with many diverse, international Clients such as Disney, BBC and Cartoon Network.

Cartoon Saloon develops and produces feature film and TV series projects while producing award winning short films, television commercials, graphic novels and children's books.

According to Chairperson Malcolm Noonan, "We are thrilled that Aisling accepted the offer as Grand Marshall for 2011 and we know that all young people in the city involved in clubs and groups will join Aisling in her parade through the streets of Kilkenny and celebrate this great National Day."

Once again, the committee are hopeful for super community support and participation to strengthen further on last year's great effort. The organisers are appealing to the business community to support the Parade by giving a financial donation but also to support the event by participating in the day and running music and entertainment in their own businesses.

"If we all pull together we can create a magical carnival atmosphere in the city." According to Malcolm, Chairperson of the organising group. We want green everywhere! Shop front displays, building lighting etc

To keep everyone entertained for longer, there will be pre-parade and post parade entertainment so Kilkenny's street will be jumping from 2.30pm to 8pm with the plaza as the focal point for the days festivities. KCLR's famous people like Edwina Grace and Martin Bridgeman will be belting it out on stage while our own George Candler, will as, always perform at the reviewing stand and introduce the parade participants to the dignitaries and the spectators. St Patricks Day in Kilkenny couldn't go ahead without George – he has been an amazing supporter and never fails to keep the crowds entertained.
