Disruption on the N10 and N76 sections of the ring road look set to continue into February of next year.
Director of Services with Kilkenny County Council, John Mulholland said that once the current work on the Bennetsbridge road roundabout are completed the road between the Bennetsbridge roundabout and the Callan roundabout will be resurfaced.
“The works currently in progress entail the provision of an asphalt overlay on all approaches to the Bennettsbridge Road roundabout, on the section of the N10 ring road between the Waterford Road roundabout and the Callan Road roundabout and the N76 Callan Road as far as Shellumsrath. The works include improvements to and re-alignments of roundabout approaches so as to improve traffic management and to increase traffic carrying capacity. In addition the existing contract includes the provision of kerbing to both sides of the ring road between the Waterford Road roundabout and Callan road roundabout in order to improve facilities for pedestrians. In due course it is intended to provide a footpath/cylcle track along the full length of the ring road from the Castlecomer road right around to the Callan Road,” said Mr Mulholland.
The current works are necessary as this section of the ring road has not been resurfaced since it first opened in 1985. The current works are funded by the National Roads Authority as part of the continued investment in the N10 national primary road serving Kilkenny City.
