CASH was stolen during a break-in to the Church of the Assumption in Piltown last weekend.

Parish priest Fr Paschal Moore made the grim discovery when he opened the church on Saturday morning to find that the back window of the sacristy had been smashed.

“They gained entry through the back window and cut open the safe and ransacked the sacristy before making off with a quantity of cash,” a garda spokesman said.
