AT least 20,000 Kilkenny fans flooded into the Market Yard last night to welcome home Liam McCarthy after his brief staycation in Tipperary.

The team arrived in Kilkenny from Dubiln on the train after celebrating Sunday’s win in the City West hotel. The streets of Kilkenny were closed off in preparation for Liam McCarthy’s arrival. The victorious Kilkenny team paraded through town in an open top bus led by a group of local cheerleaders.

Down in the market yard a large crowd gathered and they were entertained by the Kilkenny’s while waiting for the arrival of the team bus. When the bus arrived the thousands of fans who followed it from McDonagh station poured into the Market Yard.

A civic reception was held in the market yard with the Mayor and elected officials all celebrating the return of Liam McCarthy
