Phelan calls for planning inquiry

Deputy Ann Phelan is calling for a public investigation into Carlow planning.

Deputy Ann Phelan is calling for a public investigation into Carlow planning.

“One of my inherited concerns since becoming a Carlow-Kilkenny TD is the whole issue of the shadow cast over physical planning in Carlow, following the 2008 Local Government Audit Service Report about suspected planning irregularities in the county,” the Labour TD said.

She was responding to assurances given by Environment Minister Phil Hogan that the report commissioned by Carlow County Council in 2010 entitled “Planning and Corporate Governance” would be acted upon in the near future.

“I am aware of the cost to the taxpayer about investigations into these matters, but I made my position very clear, that I am not satisfied with an internal department investigation in this case because it merits a proper open, public and transparent process followed by appropriate swift legal action,” Deputy Phelan said.
