KILKENNY artist Ross Stewart can add a second Oscar nomination to his portfolio of work as ParaNorman a film he worked on has been shortlisted for the prestigious award.

“I was a concept artist on the production design team. I heard today that the film has been nominated for Best Animated Feature at this year’s Academy Award. I am delighted to have been involved. ParaNorman is doing really well at all the awards and has been getting loads of nominations,” he said.

The Kilkenny artist, who was art director on Cartoon Saloon’s Oscar-nominated feature length film Secret of Kells will travel to LA next month for the Annie Awards. “They are like the Oscars in the world of animation. The production design team on ParaNorman got nominated for an award so that is fantastic for us,” he added.

Ross spent a year in Portland, Oregon doing conceptual and visual development and designing the world of Paranorman before returning to Kilkenny where he worked on concepts for the next feature length film from Cartoon Saloon - Song of the Sea. “People are already joking about the hat trick - who knows we’ll just have to wait and see,” he said.
