Well-known freelance GAA journalist Jackie Cahill was in Kilkenny last week, where he called into the CBS to talk to students about sports journalism and newspaper reporting as part of World Book Week 2013.

Jackie also talked about his experience ghostwriting the autobiography of current Clare senior hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald. He offered some very good advice to the students on how to prepare a match report and the importance of keeping accurate records during a match.

He created a picture of the urgency and speed of match day reporting and the vital importance of technology in the whole process of meeting deadlines for printing. Jackie is a regular contributor to all the national newspapers, match day programmes and GAA magazine the Hogan Stand.

The boys were very eager to ask questions, many of which were very interesting. The CBS would like to thank Jackie for taking the time out to enlighten students in his area of expertise.
