INSPIRED by toilet graffiti the opening of Stuart Strokes Otters by Laura Angell will take place at 7pm on Wednesday (May 29) at the Upstairs Gallery.

Through this exhibition we learn about Stuart and his special interest and the reasons why, as he spirals into what

becomes his dark perversion. We see into a secret world of a seemingly ordinary man who will do anything to feed his need. As the saying goes “no one knows what goes on behind closed doors” but we certainly wonder. His story is told through drawings, embroideries and paintings.

Laura’s practice investigates obsessives and obsessions, her previous work dealt with her own self obsession of failure. She is a people watcher and observes those people that don’t quite fit into society the loner and the quirky one and one that’s a bit odd.

Her work is often tinged with darkness and humour, both an integral part of her practice. An inevitable part of being human too. The exhibition runs until June 19.
