A local school has suspended a number of Leaving Cert students for taking part in an end-of-year prank last Wednesday.

The incident took place in Kilkenny College during the weekly morning assembly.

Following an inquiry from the Kilkenny People, the school confirmed that students had been suspended. Headmaster Ian Coombes issued a statement yesterday morning.

“Kilkenny College takes seriously its duty of care for the right of pupils to uninterrupted teaching and learning in a safe environment without disruption,” reads the statement.

“Following an incident on Wednesday last involving a minority of sixth form pupils, those acknowledged as participating have been given brief suspensions in line with the code of conduct. As this is a private matter involving minors the school will be making no further comment.”
