Christmas comes to the Barn Theatre from 11 to 13 December as local drama group, Barn Owl Players, return to the stage with their popular annual outing ‘Christmas Crackers’.
The group which was founded in 2008 has grown with every passing year and consists of an eclectic mix of people who live and work in Kilkenny. Every year this talented and enterprising group of actors concoct an exciting adventure through theatre, poetry and music in response to the yuletide season. This year is no exception and the evening promises to wow audience members with it’s festive fare including songs, mulled wine and nibbles.
‘Christmas Crackers’ is now a firm favourite among many with it’s mix of entertainment and festive cheer and fare. In the shadow of a 14 foot Christmas tree and a cabaret-style setting the actors will present offerings from Charles Dickens, Donal O’Kelly, Patrick Kavanagh, Emily Dickenson and James Joyce amongst a feast of others.
According to committee member, Jim Carroll the evening is ‘a must to get into the spirit of Christmas’.
“It really is a very special show with some stunning renditions and performances of some of our all time Christmas favourites. It is a great night of fun and entertainment and we have had a great response to the evening over the years.
“The Barn is transformed into a magical wonderland and there is also mulled wine to get people feeling all warm and festive.
“We are an amateur group and we really appreciate people coming out and supporting us and attending the show and we hope everyone has a great time. As a group we also want to thank the staff at Barnstorm Theatre Company, especially the artistic director, Philip Hardy and general manager, Vincent Dempsey for all their help and support,” he added.
Christmas Crackers takes place in The Barn, Barnstorm Theatre Company, Church Lane (behind St Canice’s Cathedral) for three nights only at 8pm nightly next Thursday, Friday and Saturday (December 11 - 13).
Tickets cost €12 (€10 concession) and includes wine and nibbles.
