Over 12 stone lost at Mount Juliet leisure centre

MOUNT Juliet leisure centre recently organised a healthy lifestyle change programme over eight weeks with 17 men and women taking part. The weekly programme consisted of a weigh in, a motivational talk and customised daily diet sheets.

MOUNT Juliet leisure centre recently organised a healthy lifestyle change programme over eight weeks with 17 men and women taking part. The weekly programme consisted of a weigh in, a motivational talk and customised daily diet sheets.

Each participant received a full fitness test and a programme designed to meet their needs. From this realistic goals were set for each individual. Weight loss and exercise goals formed part of the overall healthy lifestyle change programme. Participants were offered support and assistance throughout the eight weeks meeting with the two mentors, Caroline Walsh and Ashling Fitzgerald, on a daily basis. As well as the obvious health related incentives to loose weight and introduce daily exercise in to their lives the offer of a month’s free membership of the luxurious Leisure Centre at Mount Juliet was a driving force for all the participants to achieve their agreed weight loss goals.

The final weigh in was a truly spectacular event marked with very joyous and healthy celebration. The total loss of the group was 12stone 4lbs. Each and every participant achieved their own personal goal and objectives to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle. The programme consisted of a carefully designed cardiovascular, tone, strength and resistance programme together with diet, motivation and a healthy lifestyle change talks.

Ashling, the groups mentor met with each individual personally to find out what weight loss targets they wished to achieve. Motivation, re-assessing and the daily contact with the fitness professionals at Mount Juliet Leisure Centre were the key to the overall success of this programme.

Each participant was given a full health/ fitness check and a healthy BMI target was given to each one. Every Tuesday evening the group would meet with Ashling to get weighed in and see if they were on track regarding their weight loss. Some of the participants went from being almost sedentary to walking and some running five miles.
