AN AMBULANCE was stolen from outside the entrance of the accident and emergency department at St Luke’s Hospital at lunchtime last Saturday.

A man in his thirties got into the ambulance, which was unoccupied and drove out of the hospital grounds towards Freshford

Four gardai vehicles gave chase, and attempted to intercept. After half an hour the suspect pulled in outside a private residence in the Three Castles area. He was arrested and brought to Kilkenny Garda Station where he was questioned for a number of hours by detectives. He was subsequently released without charge and a file on the matter is being prepared for the DPP.
