After months of planning, preparing and rehearsing, KATS Theatre Group, Kilkenny open their 2015 show “The Elephant Man” in the Watergate Theatre in the city next week.

The show runs from Wednesday, September 23 to Saturday, September 26 and with tickets starting to fly out the door it’s advisable to book yours early.

Directed by Watergate stalwart, Don O’Connor and including a wealth of local talent, this intriguing and engaging true story portrays the life of Joseph ‘John’ Merrick, a horribly disfigured man living in 19th Century England. After suffering a lifetime of hardship he eventually finds refuge in the London Hospital thanks to one aspiring young Doctor who wished to aid and educate Merrick. But in the end, who is educating whom?

This iconic play has featured such stars as David Bowie, Bradley Cooper and famously portrayed by John Hurt in the 1980 film. Now this seldom seen masterpiece will be appearing for just four days in The Watergate Theatre and if KATS 2013 production ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ is anything to go by, it will be a show not to be missed.
