“We would plead with all dog owners to ensure their dogs are locked up at night. Apart from the severe financial losses such attacks on defenceless sheep are the worst form of animal cruelty,” local farmer and Irish Limousin Cattle Society activist, Austin Fin said.

“Only the winter before last, two uncontrolled family dogs caused extensive losses to sheep in the nearby Muckalee, Knockmajor and Johnswell areas and we don’t want a repeat as it has huge impact on farmers’ livelihoods and it is also extremely cruel and sheep that do survive these attacks never thrive afterwards,” he said.
