Heywood school’s got talent — and plenty of it

There is no Saint Heywood as far as we know, so no feast day to celebrate for the school population.

There is no Saint Heywood as far as we know, so no feast day to celebrate for the school population.

With that in mind, Heywood Community School set up a ‘Foundation Day’ to celebrate the coming together of the four second level schools that amalgamated to form the current school.

Those four schools were the Salesian College at Ballinakill, the Presentation Convent in Durrow and the Brigidine Convent and Vocational School from Abbeyleix. Representatives from the four founding schools were in attendance at the annual mass for Foundation Day that celebrates the school’s foundation in 1990.

Luckily the school’s capacious sports hall can contain the 680 students and assembled guests. The mass was celebrated by former school chaplain Fr Tony McEvoy and co-celebrant Fr Michael Conlon, both of the Salesian Order. Music was supplied by the talented singers and players of the school.

That singing, dancing and playing talent will be on display shortly in the same school hall. On Thursday, November 22 that hall will be packed to capacity for the Heywood’s Got Talent Show.

This talent show will feature the best of the very talented students of Heywood Community School in a competition to find out who has the most talent, star quality and that elusive x-factor. Featuring celebrity judges and presenter this will be a fantastic evening’s entertainment.

Make a note in your diary for a show not to be missed on November 22, when you’ll see just how much Heywood’s got talent.
