HAVING boosted empoyment to six full-time representatives, Forestry Servoces Limited opened its new national offices at Cillin Hill, Kilkenny city today (Friday). It will allow them to liaise with up to 140 contract workers at peak times during the year. Shane McEntee, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine with responsibility for forestry officially opened the new Kilkenny office.
Forestry Services Ltd is a private forestry company which has been an active part of Ireland’s forestry and forest products sector since its establishment in 1985. The company is involved in forest establishment and management and offers a range of advisory and other services to its clients. Speaking at the opening of the new offices, Minister McEntee noted the importance of the overall forestry sector to the economy and added that; “the continued development of forestry is essential to ensure that there is a critical mass of timber coming on-stream in the years ahead to meet the demands of Ireland’s valuable timber and timber products sector and the emerging wood energy sector.”
Giving an overview of progress being made within the sector, he welcomed the formation of forestry producer groups throughout the country and the increase in demand for felling licences in 2011. The Minister commented that the opening of Forestry Services’new Kilkenny offices was an indication of the health and potential of the forest sector in Ireland and wished the company and its staff every success in the future.
