CELEBRATING our local heroes will be the order of the evening at the Newpark Hotel this Friday as people gather for the 16th annual Kilkenny People of the Year awards.
The ceremony, which also raises funds for Rehab recognises people who go the extra mile for their community and inspire others through their actions.
Friends and family of some of Kilkenny’s most inspirational people will gather in the Newpark Hotel this Friday in what promises to be one off the highlights social calender. After the gala banquet Anne Doyle of RTE Fame will interview each of the category winners before the overall Kilkenny Person of the Year is announced. The music and revelry will continue late into the night with music by Route 66.
“These awards give recognition to people who make a huge contribution to their local community and to society. They are very special people who deserve to be honoured and respected and looked up to. It is important that the people who put in the work are honoured and this inspires and encourages other people to do the same,” said chairperson, Declan McCann.
Hugh Maddock of Rehab remarked that the awards ceremony is an important fundraiser for the organisation. “We are affected by cuts so the monies raised by an event like this are hugely important to us. It is a night of celebration and of great fun. It is all about the winners and each and everyone of you is a winner,” he added.
Tickets for the event are priced at €50 and include a gala banquet and are available from Rehab on William Street or on (087) 8261925.
