The Chapter House of St Mary’s Cathedral in the city has undergone significant refurbishment in the past year, including the opening of a cafe that has already become a popular meeting place. And there are still further plans under way for the building.

The Ossory Diocesan Trust is seeking planning permission from Kilkenny Borough Council for a basement-level extension to the existing refreshment area kitchen with a new connection to the Chapter House building at basement level; a basement-level store area adjoining the above development; new external steps from ground level between the Chapter House and St Mary’s Cathedral to the refreshment area to access the proposed development; a raised area over the basement extension between the Chapter House and St Mary’s Cathedral; associated modifications to the external area of the Chapter House refreshment area/lightwell; and associated site and development works.

The proposed internal new building area is 64.2 sqm, of which 27 sqm is the kitchen extension.
