The Iverk Show takes place on Saturday, August 24 at the show grounds in Piltown.

This year’s event will be special because of the ‘Year of the Gathering’. The committee have been very busy over the last number of months putting a programme together to suit everyone on show day.

The prize list has gone out to all of the usual exhibitors and is available from the secretary or online at www.iverkshow.ie. All entries can be made online this year. There are a few new events at this year’s show as well as the usual programme, so there will be a full day’s entertainment for young and old.

Despite the closing date of August 9 just around the corner, late entries will be accepted by the committee. It would be a major advantage for the show to have as many entries as possible in by the closing date, so that all entries will appear in the show catalogue.

Spaces for trade stands fill up fast so it would be advisable to book a space as soon as possible. Parking arrangements are as per previous years and again there will be free parking. The committee would like to thank the landowners for their co-operation on show day.

A major advantage for the committee this year is the Irish Angus, ABP, Aldi All Ireland Final which will take place at approximately 2pm. This will have qualifiers from 15 Shows throughout the country, coming to Iverk for the final, and has €11,000 in prize money. The rest of the prize list is more or less the same as previous years, with a lot of prize money available in all the different sections.

VIP for the opening at 11.30am is the very well-known former editor of the Farmers Journal, Matt Dempsey. His comments on farming and rural life will be worth listening to, and Matt is looking forward to coming to Piltown.

A special exhibit this year will be the ‘Iverk Show Homecoming’. This is part of the Irish Gathering 2013 and many who left the Barony over the years are expected to return, to meet and renew old friendships.

On display, there will be old memorabilia of shows gone past, coupled with a power point presentation.

So now that Bruce has been and gone, the next big date in the south-east is Saturday, August 24 for a full day’s entertainment at a very reasonable admission fee at the Iverk Show in Piltown .
