Gardaí have arrested four men today following a robbery of a post office on Main Street, Urlingford, which occurred shortly after midday today.
A number of masked men entered the post office at approximately 12:05pm, threatened staff and leaving a short time later with a substantial amount of cash. A female member of staff received minor injuries.
Gardaí from Kilkenny and surrounding districts responding to an incident stopped a car travelling on the Urlingford to Freshford road and arrested three men aged in their mid twenties.
In a number of follow up searches, a car was discovered burned out, at Ardragh, Urlingford. A fourth man, aged in his forties was arrested in Kilkenny City at approximately 4pm. A substantial amount of cash was recovered during the arrests and subsequent searches.
The four men are currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Kilkenny, Thomastown and Carlow Garda stations.
