Plans to redevelop the Castlecomer Discovery Park have been given approval by Kilkenny County Council.

The planning permission for 10 years includes three phases. First is a treetop walk and redeveloped car park with an entrance-control barrier in the first three years, followed by an animal sanctuary, family activity centre and fishing pontoons in years four to six, and finishing with a vista walk in years seven to 10.

The works will complement the developments of recent years including the exhibition centre, café, craft buildings, playground, forest walks and fishing lakes on the 11.027-hectare site.

The lands are owned in part by the Castlecomer Development Association and in part by Coillte, both of whom submitted letters of consent for the project with the planning application documents.
