A DINNER to be held in Kilkenny’s Rothe House on May 16 will feature a guest list including ambassadors, businesses such as ACC Bank and the papal nuncio.

Hosted by Paul Smithwick, the private dinner is in honour of the Dutch ambassador to Ireland, Robert Engels, whose term comes to an end this summer.

Around 100 people are expected to attend, with the guest list including diplomats such as the new British ambassador and those from Latvia, Austria, Belgium and Denmark; business representatives from ACC Bank, Phillips, the Hilton Hotel and Kilkenny’s Pembroke Hotel; and the papal nuncio, Rev Charles Brown. Castlecomer’s Fonsie Mealy and Mayor David Fitzgerald have also been invited.

The event is set to raise the profile of the 17th-century merchant’s house, which is already a tourist destination and whose museum is due to open next year as part of its Renaissance redevelopment project.
