The Scottish author of gritty novel Trainspotting, Irvine Welsh, has revealed himself to be a big fan of Kilkenny hurling – and what’s more, he expects a Cats’ victory on Sunday.

A celebrated novelist, Mr Welsh is most famous for the 1993 book, with its brutal depiction of the lives of a group of Edinburgh drug addicts. Last Sunday, a series of Tweets exchanged between Mr Welsh and other Twitter users reveal him to have been a regular attendee at GAA matches during his time living in Ireland.

In his tweets, Mr Welsh says he expects a Kilkenny win on Sunday, and hails former inter-county hurler Martin Comerford as a “total GAA hero”.
