KILKENNY Photographic Society, in collaboration with the Education Centre, is holding a Transition Year Photography Festival during the first week of October for secondary schools in Kilkenny.

It is an awareness and educational event in photography, to help students appreciate and improve on their artistic, photographic, compositional and visual skills.

It will also help them prepare their selection and submission of images for next year’s competition. Each school has been invited to bring along up to 25 students.

The events will consist of four presentations per day, given by experienced photographers and presenters: Hugo Reidy LIPF, Fiona Power MA, Amanda Burke LIPF, Benny Power ASWPP, Seamus Costelloe LNAIP, who are all giving of their time and talent for free. The presentations will cover various aspects of photography, including composition and light, portraiture and lighting, careers, digital editing, photoshop, sports, nature, landscape, fashion and glamour.

The Transition Year Photography Festival will be opened by Mayor Sean O’ hArgain, with guest speaker Emer Foley, chairperson of Kilkenny Arts Festival, and invited guests Tadhg Leonard, Nikon and Kieran White, White’s Pharmacy. An exhibition of award winning images by members of KPS will be on display also.
