Galway bishop praying for a win

Galway’s bishop will no doubt be praying for a win in Sunday’s All-Ireland senior hurling replay, but only he will know which side will be the beneficiary of his powers – because he’s actually a native of Piltown.

Bishop Martin Drennan is also a former teacher of St Kieran’s College, the hurling stronghold, and he previously served in St Mary’s Cathedral and Ballycallan parishes in Kilkenny.

“My first hope is that it will be a great match and I think it will be. Galway and Kilkenny have always brought out the best in each other,” he told The Irish Daily Star before the initial match.

“I have followed Kilkenny all my life and, of course, want to see them win. But I will be just as delighted if Galway win.”
