A GREAT community effort coupled with funding from Leader and Kilkenny County Council has resulted in the completion of a state-of-the-art playground for Bennettsbridge.

PRO of the Community Development Group, Kathleen Sherry explained that the group was set up in 2011.

“One of our priorities was to build a playground. This need was identified in the County Development Plan in 2008. We applied to Leader and to Kilkenny County Council for grants and were successful in receiving a €45,000 grant from both,” she said.

The project then went out to tender and work commenced at the end of January. “The social finance bank Clann credo were great and provided us with bridging finance. In total the project cost €100,000 which we have raised through the funding we have been allocated and from fundraising,” added Ms Sherry.

Construction of the playground has been completed in recent weeks and the playground is currently undergoing inspections and is due to open in the next fortnight.

The official opening of the playground, which is located in the parish field in the village will take place at 11am on May 12.
