A CHAIRPERSON who worked tirelessly on the behalf of the people of the county is how Cllr Marie Fitzpatrick will be remembered.

A CHAIRPERSON who worked tirelessly on the behalf of the people of the county is how Cllr Marie Fitzpatrick will be remembered.

The popular Labour councillor stepped down from her role as chairperson last Friday and thanked the county manager, Joe Crockett, members of the executive, staff at county hall and her fellow councillors for their patience, kindness and respect.

Cllr Mary Hilda Kavanagh (FG) thanked her collegaue and described her as a ‘very fair minded and very fair person who worked tirelessly on behalf of the people of the county’.

The incoming chairperson Pat Dunphy (FG) also congratulated Cllr Fitzpatrick on a job well done. These sentiments were echoed by Cllr Billy Ireland (FF) .

County manager Joe Crockett also paid tribute to the outgoing chairperson who was presented with flowers from Cllr Catherine Connery (FG) and a framed photograph of her grandchildren from Chairperson Pat Dunphy. “You put in a tremendous year of it and did an excellent job,” he said.
