Seven men have been arrested following a violent robbery on a family home just across the border in Killenaule, Tipperary in the early hours of this morning.
It followed a dramatic car chase across the country, from the scene of the crime to as far away as West Dublin. A number of armed Garda units, assisted by the Garda helicopter, managed to apprehend the gang.
They had broken into a house in Killenaule, where a family with three young children were left traumatised, as their father was assaulted. They stole money and jewellery, and made their escape in the family vehicle.
The men are being detained for questioning at various Garda stations across the midlands.
The arrests were made as part Operation Fiacla, which has been successfully targeting criminal gangs carrying out robberies across in rural areas. The gangs use the motorway networks to move from one area to another in short spaces of time.
Three children aged under 8 were in the property along with their parents when the raiders forced their way in.
