Two people have been arrested in Kilkenny City as part of the ongoing investigation into the theft of property from a truck full of donations for Chernobyl children earlier this month.

Gardai carried out searches this morning in the Hebron Road area of the city. Property believed to have been taken in the theft was recovered.

Two people were arrested and are currently detained at Kilkenny under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

There was heartbreak earlier in the month when the truck, which was laden with over €100,000 worth of donations including nappies, children’s shoes, clothes, and toys, was ransacked. Following a fantastic community effort, much of the cargo was repacked and volunteer Jim Kavanagh managed to depart for Belarus as originally planned.
