Kilkenny CBS celebrated a landmark occasion when Tony O’Brien and his wife Frances arrived to our school to partake in the official presentation of the first ‘Tony O’Brien Business Scholarship’ to CBS student John Brennan of Paulstown.
A Piltown native, former CEO of Cantrell and Cochrane, Mr. O’Brien, who also served on the boards of numerous companies and State Boards. He approached CBS school management early in 2011 with his generous offer of a considerable bursary to be made available to business students in our school.
The Principal, Mr Tom Clarke, welcomed everyone to the presentation and thanked Tony O’Brien for his generosity and congratulated John Brennan as the first recipient. Mr O’Brien then explained his choice of Kilkenny CBS as down to the school’s long-standing contribution to the fabric of life in the city. He went on to say that Kilkenny CBS had a ‘wonderful balance’ across all aspects of school life and that this was a major factor in selecting Kilkenny CBS as the receiptient of this scholarship scheme. The qualifying candidates will be accepted into the prestigious Quinn School of Business in University College Dublin.
