A KILKENNY farm, four miles from the city made a staggering E2.5 million at auction yesterday. Pigeon Park House, Danesfort on the old Kilkenny to Waterford road and the 140 acres around it had a guide price of between E1.6 and E1.8 million writes Sean Keane.

The ballroom at the Club House Hotel in the city centre was full for the event and after a number of bids, the property was put on the market at E2.28 million. Thirty bids later it was sold for E2.5 million. The house needs a substantial amount of work but the farm was described as one the best to come on the market in Kilkenny for many years by auctioneer Ed Donohoe. Asked to explain the huge interest in the farm, he said that money obtained by local landowners from the completed Dublin-Waterford dual carriageway may have had a positive impact on the sale. The farm was sold to auctioneer Pat Gannon in trust.
