The new single ‘The Gathering’ from local band The Kilkennys has been a huge success with over 10,000 YouTube hits in just one day and a number 2 placing in the iTunes singer/songwriter charts. In a strange turn of events, an old single from the band, ‘Keep Your Fires Burning’, has entered the charts in Australia at number 34.

The single complete with a music video that was filmed in St Canice’s Cathedral was released on iTunes at midnight last Thursday. The release was announced on the bands Facebook page that boasts a whopping 12,400 fans. The YouTube video was posted along with the link to purchase the track for 99cent from iTunes. Within 24 hours the video had been viewed over 10,000 times.

The band checked the iTunes charts on Monday and were delighted to see their song at number 2, just behind the international success story Ed Sheeran who last week sold out three consecutive nights in Dublins O2. The band were pleasantly shocked to see a song they released as a single in 2010 had also made a come back by entering the Australian charts at number 34.

Besides all of the positive comments on the bands Facebook page and YouTube channel, the band also recieved some negative remarks online from people who seemed to think the song was commissioned by the Government to coincide with The Gathering 2013. This could not be further from the truth as The Kilkennys recorded and produced the song at their own expense, released it indepently on iTunes and promoted everything online themselves with the help of some close friends. Local musicians Davey Cashin, Tommy Mackey, Robbie Campion and Davey Long, are overwhelmed with the positive response and the power of the internet.

The online promotion of the new song also led the band into bookings in Abu Dabi and Kuwait, international dates that will be added to their already extensive 2013 tour dates that include Germany, Holland, Denmark and Las Vegas to name a few.

Tonight (Wednesday) the band will fly to Bratislava, the capital city of Slovakia, where they will perform two exclusive shows for the EU Presidency celebrations. One of the shows will go out live on Slovakias main radio station. ‘The Gathering’ is available to download from iTunes now. Keep an eye on www.thekilkennys.com or follow the band at
