Community mourns the death of Dr Kieran Cuddihy

The popular retired doctor who was team doctor for the county hurling team for several years passed away at St Luke’s Hospital on New Year’s Eve.

He was the beloved husband of the late Ailish and loving father of Johnny, Billy, Brendan, Paul, Lar and Kate. He will be sadly missed by his children, sister Ina Hayes (who is living in Australia), daughters-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

A large crowd of mourners attended his removal to St Canice’s Church last night. His funeral Mass takes place this morning at 11am with burial afterwards at Foulkstown cemetery.

Kieran Cuddihy was a team doctor with Kilkenny hurling teams for many years. The role was continued by his sons Johnny and Bill.

The sporting tradition continued into another generation. His grand-daughters Joanne and Catriona were part of the Irish Olympic team selected for the London 2012 games, while his grandson Kieran won county intermediate honours with Dicksboro in 2010, reaching the club All-Ireland final in 2011.

His wife Dr Ailish Cuddihy (nee Forristal) passed over the Christmas holidays last year.
