A special event will be held in Kilkenny City this weekend to mark the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I.

The event will take place at City Hall on Saturday, August 2. It begins at 11am and will run until 4pm.

Visitors will have a chance to see for themselves the plans for Kilkenny’s Great War memorial for St Mary’s Church – a project that is being put together by a local group. People also will have an opportunity to research their own family’s involvement in the Great War, to see and hear songs, sounds, medals and memorabilia, meet soldiers and have pictures taken.

All who are interested are welcome to come along.
