Three thieves arrested

The Gardai have successfully caught three burglars who were breaking into houses in the Kilkenny area since the New year.

In the early hours of New Years day two males were seen entering a house in Orchard Upper estate. Gardai were informed of the burglary and a short time later the two males were arrested and detained under Section 4 of the criminal justice act. The suspects have since been released and a file has been sent to the director of Public Prosecutions.

Another suspect is in custody after breaking into two houses and robbing a car in the city centre on Tuesday night. The suspect was intercepted in the early hours of the morning in the Coon area. He had left the city after stealing the keys to a blue Opel Astra but was intercepted by gardai Coon area who were in the area searching for the suspect. After a short pursuit on foot the suspect was arrested.

Gardai have described the thieves as opportunistic. A spokesperson appealed to homeowners to take simple steps like keeping their front and rear doors locked and activate their alarm systems in order to deter thieves.
